About

Catherine is a creative and enthusiastic Structural Engineer in Arup’s multidisciplinary engineering and architecture group. She uses her skills as a design integrator to play a pivotal role in engineering teams, and beyond the workplace uses her skills and experience to teach and inspire the next generation of young engineers.

Catherine’s day-to-day role as a Structural Engineer involves not only the technical design of structures but the coordination and integration of all aspects of building design. She has taken responsibility for key elements on a range of high-profile and significant projects, such as Sky’s Believe in Better Building and the Leadenhall Building, and she has led multidisciplinary teams on smaller-scale projects. Catherine has worked across the commercial, leisure, education and residential sectors, and with her multidisciplinary background, she has been able to communicate with disparate audiences and to integrate disciplines in a range of situations.

Her dual honours Structural Engineering and Architecture degree from Sheffield University is a qualification unique in its joint accreditation by the IStructE, ICE and RIBA. Catherine won departmental awards for academic performance and for her master’s research thesis into structural optimisation, and she now continues that research within Arup alongside an EPSRC project funded at the University, valuably linking academia and industry.

Catherine organises and takes part in several STEM outreach programmes and frequently mentors students from primary school to university level in extra-curricular engineering and architecture projects, taking a managerial role in Arup’s Community Engagement network. In her spare time, Catherine is interested in design and construction in China, and continues to study Mandarin.
